I have been a private equity and venture capital investor for over 15 years. I currently manage Apta Capital, a middle market private equity firm. From 2001 to 2008, I was a managing director at New York-based private equity firm Emigrant Capital, where I built their branded consumer products practice and established their Executive Partner program for operating executives. From 1997 to 2001, I ran San Francisco and Palo Alto-based Tira Capital, which provided investment banking services and managed private equity and venture capital investments. Tira Capital investments included software, business services, contract manufacturing and food products companies. From 1991 to 1997, I was a principal in Saratoga Partners, a middle market buyout fund managed by Dillon Read. Saratoga Partners investments spanned numerous industries, including manufacturing, insurance, banking, television, publishing, consumer products, and retail. My experience prior to that includes investment banking at Dillon Read and Merrill Lynch. I have a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley, and an MBA from Wharton.
I have served as a director of several private companies, including: AC Label (specialty label printer); Boylan Bottling Co. (gourmet/natural soda); EnvoyGlobal (Web conferencing business now part of Microsoft); Forward Foods (protein bars); The Jolt Company (energy drinks); Robeks Corp. (smoothie franchise system); U.S.I. Holdings (insurance services company built through over 100 acquisitions); and Zola (healthy juices).
